How much do you tip a riad staff in Morocco?

Tipping the staff at a riad in Morocco is appreciated but not strictly required. However, as a gesture of gratitude for the typically personalized and attentive service, it’s customary to leave a tip. Here’s a general guideline for tipping at a riad:

1. Housekeeping:

  • 10-20 MAD per night (about $1-2 USD).
  • You can leave this daily or at the end of your stay.

2. Porters:

  • 20-50 MAD (around $2-5 USD), depending on the amount of luggage or effort involved.

3. Breakfast/Waitstaff:

  • If breakfast is included, you aren’t required to tip, but leaving 10-20 MAD after each meal or at the end of your stay is a kind gesture.

4. General Staff (at the end of your stay):

  • 100-200 MAD (around $10-20 USD) for the entire staff is common if you’ve received excellent service throughout your stay. You can either give it to the manager to distribute or offer it directly to the staff members you interacted with the most.

5. Private Driver or Tour Guide (if arranged by the riad):

  • 100-200 MAD per day for drivers.
  • 200-300 MAD per day for a tour guide, depending on the length of the tour and the service quality.

Tipping is generally appreciated in Moroccan culture, and even small amounts are welcomed. You can tip in Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) or in small amounts of local currency equivalent if you don’t have Dirhams.
